Happy Fourth of July!
For our country there is no greater freedom than that of Independence. We’re so grateful to live in a country where soldiers fight for our freedom. We honor every military personnel for their commitment and dedication for our country. Thank you for your service!
For our nonprofit, Diversity In Stem Outreach Project, Inc turns One. Today is our 1 year anniversary. As we reflect back to a year ago on July 4th, 2015 we received our Certificate of Incorporation from the state of Georgia and IRS Tax exemption. For us, we celebrate every milestone.
We truly believe we could not have chosen a more perfect date than July 4th as our Anniversary date. A date that truly reflect freedom and independence; exactly the spirit of our nonprofit organization. We believe all children have the right to receive amazing opportunities STEM offers regardless of socio-economic status.
We spent the first year of our nonprofit in planning and program development mode. We are excited to announce that we have selected Adamsville Primary School a part of the Atlanta Public School System as our adopted partner for 2016-17 academic year.
We will work closely with the school’s leadership team to host first STEM Career Week that will highlight careers in science, technology, engineering, and math to elementary students in underrepresented communities. We will bring in diverse career guest speakers, lab demos, and bring awareness to children about professions in STEM. Early exposure to STEM careers is key to spark that interest in children.
We will continue to increase funding & donations for field trip experiences and STEM outreach initiatives. We believe learning should happen in the classroom AND outside the classroom. We also believe when we expose children to science, technology, engineering, and math we are helping to develop future leaders in these fields.
We’ve been extremely grateful for the national recognition we have received within the short amount of time we have been in existence. We were extremely honored to have our Executive Director nominated and selected as a Game Changer at the first inaugural State of Women event in Washington DC.
As we celebrate our 1 year anniversary we want to thank each of one of you for supporting our nonprofit and as we work towards fundraising in 2016 and beyond we ask that you continue to support our efforts with our various fundraising campaigns. We will be sure to share more details with you later. We also ask if you are interested in being a volunteer, corporate sponsor, or want to learn more about our nonprofit please visit our website.
